Since its founding in January 2000, the Association has been proud to welcome all those who bear the names Faucher and Foucher (descendants of Jean Foucher), as well as the Faucher, Châteauvert, and Saint‑Maurice families (descendants of Léonard Faucher).
Our motto — “Building your future begins with knowing your origins.” — expresses the spirit that unites us and guides our mission.

24th Gathering of the Association – Saturday, August 23, 2025

Dear members and friends of the Association,

🎉 25 Years of Commitment Celebrated in Style
On Saturday, August 23, 2025, our Association celebrated its 25th anniversary at Île d’Orléans, at the Maison de nos Aïeux. Thirty members attended this 24th Gathering.

A Gathering Filled with Memory and Pride
To mark 25 years of connection and sharing, our Association met at the Sainte-Famille Municipal Center on Île d’Orléans, birthplace of our founding lineages, including that of Jean Foucher and Jeanne Malteau de Richecourt.

The guided tour of the Maison de nos Aïeux helped rekindle our shared roots and deepen our understanding of the history that unites us as descendants of the Foucher and Faucher families.

Thanks to the loyalty of those present and the remarkable work of the Board members and Jean-Guy Châteauvert, who organized the day, it was a powerful moment rich in emotion and memories. The Association is more vibrant than ever.

🌟 Notable Presences for an Unforgettable Day
We had the honor of welcoming Mrs. Lisette Faucher (3), a founding member of our Association, accompanied by her husband Jean Pierre-Paul. Several new faces joined us, including Shirley Michaud Wild and her niece Michèle Michaud, who came especially from the United States. Their presence, like that of each of you, enriched this day with memories and shared stories. Thank you all for being there.

🇺🇸 An Honored Guest from the United States
Mrs. Shirley Michaud Wild (344), an American citizen residing in Virginia, attended with her niece Michele Michaud. Daughter of Ludger Jean Michaud and Fabiola Faucher, both originally from Québec, she embodies the living link between our Québécois roots and the North American diaspora. We were proud to welcome her and her niece as the first representatives from the United States to attend our Gathering.

🇫🇷 Our Objectives
We aim to:

Bring together the descendants of Jean Foucher (Île d’Orléans), Léonard Faucher (Neuville), and allied families.
Promote awareness and appreciation of their origins, history, and heritage.
Organize gatherings to strengthen family ties, foster camaraderie, and build lasting friendships.

🎉 A 24th Gathering Marked by Gratitude and Remembrance
The day began with a welcome address from the president, followed by a well-deserved tribute to two pillars of the Board: Claude Faucher (157) and Jean-Guy Châteauvert (167). Jean-Guy then read a text by Diane Charette recounting the early days of our Association, emotionally recalling the foundations of our collective commitment. It was a beautiful day filled with gratitude and shared memories.

📝 Annual General Assembly
The Annual General Assembly, skillfully chaired by Hélène Faucher (249), provided an opportunity to review past activities, reflect collectively on the future of the Association, and elect a new Board of Directors. This key moment highlighted the importance of preparing the next generation to carry forward the work of our founders and past members. The current Board’s dedication and passion deserve to be continued.

☀️ Afternoon Highlights
The afternoon was warm and festive. Participants enjoyed prize draws and shared items crafted by Céline Cotton. Two life stories of founding members were presented, adding emotional and historical depth to the event. A guided tour of the Maison de nos Aïeux and the Parc des Ancêtres offered insight into the “places of memory of Orléans roots, through the major chapters of Île d’Orléans’ history, past and present, and the lives of its founding families,” including the plaque honoring ancestor Jean Foucher. This moment of conviviality and remembrance beautifully concluded a sun-filled day of Gathering.

🗣️ Voices of the Members
A heartfelt thank you to Réal Faucher (258) for sensitively hosting the “Voices of the Members” segment, highlighting 25 years of memories and commitment within the Association. Hélène Faucher (249), Corinne Faucher (327), Réal Faucher (258), and all who spoke shared their experiences over the past 25 years, enriching the moment with authentic testimonies. Réal also read touching messages from Claudette Boyte (317) and Albert Faucher (210), who were absent due to health reasons. Our thoughts are with Claudette, and we wish her a speedy recovery.

🎉 Recognition and Congratulations
A big thank you to Denise Lachance (341), our dedicated secretary, for her decision to continue serving on the Board. Bravo for her consistency and commitment! Congratulations also to the new Board of Directors, and sincere thanks to all for your loyalty and ongoing dedication to the Association. Together, we keep its mission and heritage alive.

A heartfelt thank you to all members who attended this memorable day. Their spirit of collaboration and good cheer greatly contributed to the event’s success. We already look forward to sharing more inspiring moments together.

🏛️ Membership in the FQSG
During the General Assembly, members voted in favor of joining the Fédération québécoise des sociétés de généalogie (FQSG), following the president’s proposal and the reasons outlined in the July 2025 newsletter. Members of the Fédération des Associations de Familles du Québec (FAFQ) voted in their May General Assembly to dissolve the organization.

23nd Gathering of the Association

The Gathering is a privileged moment for the members of the Association to meet, to fraternize, to strengthen and to weave friendship and family ties.

The Gathering was held at the Musée des Ursulines for the conference and annual meeting and at the Musée Boréalis in Trois-Rivières, for a guided tour, on Saturday, August 24, 2024. We have discovered the history of paper from the beginning of the century to the present day.

We enjoyed seeing our members from past years and the new people who joined us. 24 people were registered for this event.

WHO’S YOUR ANCESTOR?

THE TWO PRINCIPAL FAMILIES

As of today, after many research, we can confirm that the Faucher, Foucher, Châteauvert and Saint-Maurice originated from two couple. Born in France, these ancestors have emigrated in Nouvelle-France in the mid 17^th century. Jean Foucher married to Jeanne Malteau de Richecourt is the first couple. Their descendants bear the surname of Foucher and Faucher. The second couple is Léonard Faucher named Saint-Maurice and his wife Marie Damois. Their descendant bear the surname of Faucher, Châteauvert and Saint-Maurice.

Many others bearing the surname of Faucher and Foucher have emigrated during the 17^th and 18^th century. We cannot confirm wether these people have any descendant or not.

Including these two couples, there are at least seven french with the surname of Foucher and two with the surname of Faucher that came to Nouvelle-France during the 17^th and 18^th century. This is a list of these people in the order of approximate arrival :

… Foucher

The first Foucher, from whom we have no first name, was in Nouvelle-France in 1626. He was working in Quebec city and later in a farm in Cap-Tourmente as a farmer for Samuel de Champlain. De Champlain had decided to built a house, a farm and a cabin in Cap-Tourmente so he could have mens to look for his farm animals ₄. Foucher had under his supervision eight men. On July the 9^th 1626, the farm was attacked by french trators send from Tadoussac by the Kirk brothers commanding some ships to take over the city of Quebec. Foucher was made prisonner. Badly treated, he escaped with the help of indians. In his escape, the english « lui frisèrent les moustaches » .₁ Foucher spent the winter in Quebec city and on June 26^th 1629, embark on Eustache Boullé, Champlain’s brother in-law, to go to Gaspé and eventually sail back to France.₄

Jehan Fouchez and Jeanne Malteau de Richecourt

In 1656, Jehan Fouchez settled on the Orléans Island. He was the son of Pierre and deceased Jeanne Troplonge, from Cressac near Angoulême in Saintonge (today called Charente). On November 4^th 1659, at Notre-Dame de Quebec, he married Jeanne Malteau de Richecourt, daughter of deceased Paul and Marie Gaubert of St-Jean de LaCassine, near Charleville-Mézières in Picardie (today called Ardennes). This couple is at the origin of the Foucher and Faucher branch of Orléans Island, and some of their descendants kept the surname of Foucher but many of them became Faucher. They had three sons, all born in Ste-Famille, Orléans Island. ₂

Léonard Faucher dit Saint-Maurice and Marie Damois

A Faucher working as a carpenter for Antoine Rouillard is first noticed at the 1666 census of Quebec city. He’s Léonard Faucher dit Saint-Maurice, son of Barthélémy and Sibille (alias Bénigne dite « Binle ») Briance, from Saint-Maurice de Limoges parish, in Limousin (today called Haute-Vienne). He settles at Pointe-aux-Trembles de Québec (now Neuville) with a « Fille du roi », Marie Damois, witch he married on October 15^th 1669 in Quebec city. Marie Damois is the daughter of Pierre and Marie Lefebvre both from St-Jean d’Elbeuf near Rouen in Normandie (today called Seine-Maritime). This couple had twelve children and they are the origin of the Faucher branch of Neuville. Many of their descendants took the surname of Châteauvert and Saint-Maurice.

Jacques Foucher dit Laviolette and Geneviève Chevalier

A forth Foucher, Jacques Foucher dit Laviolette, son of François and Jeanne Ghichetel from Reignac near Barbezieux et Cognac in Saintonge (today called Charente) married Geneviève Chevalier on January 26^th 1701, daughter of Joseph and Francoise-Marthe Barton. Brewer and a milice sergent in Montréal, Jacques Foucher died June 9^th 1718 without any children. His wife married François Boudret dit Duford in Montréal on October 24^th 1719.

Joseph Faucher and Marguerite Marcot

A second Faucher, Joseph, from unknown origin, married Marguerite Marcot on January 27^th 1704, daughter of Nicolas et Martine Tavrey. This marriage contract is signed in front of Notary Guillaume de Nevers and witness to this mariage is Jean Pérusse, friend of Joseph. This mariage contract is registered on January 29^th 1715 at the Laneuville notary greffe in Lotbinière where the couple lived. They had five children and three sons got married. Two settled in Saint-Louis de Lotbinière and the other settled in Yamachiche. We can trace their descendants for at least seven generations.

Robert Foucher dit Saint-Aubin and Hélène Lemieux

A fifth Foucher, Robert Foucher dit Saint-Aubin from an unknown town was a son of Jacques et Françoise Friard. He married Hélène Lemieux, daughter of Gabriel and Marguerite Leboeuf (already widow of René Paquet) on November 23^rd 1705 in Quebec city. At the 1716 census , Robert Foucher is a cabaratier in the lower city of Quebec city. This couple has no descendants.

François Foucher dit Fouchet, Marie-Bernadine Lebé and M.-Josèphe Legardeur

A sixth Foucher, François Foucher dit Fouchet, from Maillebois, Chartres parish in Beauce (today called Eure-et-Loire) arrived in Quebec in 1723 as a writer for the King and secretary for the Intendant François Bigot. Son of Jacques and Charlotte-Elisabeth Joubert, François Foucher was also the King district atorney in Montréal on April 29^th 1727. First married on November 21^st 1724 in Quebec city with Marie-Bernadine Lebé, daughter of Jean-Jacques and Françoise Lemaître, he had only one son : Jean-François, born on march 5^th 1726. Marie-Bernadine Lebé died (in the church) only six days after giving birth to his son. François Foucher got lather married with Marie-Josèphe Legardeur of Courtemanche, daughter of Augustin and Marie-Charlotte Charet. Thirteen children were born from this second mariage. The fisrt child was baptised in Quebec and all the others in Montréal. It is today impossible to tell if there are any living descendant of this couple.

Antoine Foucher and Marie-Joachim Chénier

A seventh Foucher, Antoine, merchant and public notary, son of Jean-Baptiste and Claude Baudin, was from Bourges in Berry (today called Cher). He praticed his profession from 1746 to 1800 in the Montréal area. From his first marriage to Marie-Joachim Chénier on November 11^th 1743, daughter of Jean-Baptiste and Barbe Rapin, he had three sons and seven girls. Six of them died at low age. Marie-Joachim Chénier died in Montréal on January 23^rd 1786. The next year, Antoine Foucher got married this time to Marie-Louise Giguère on August 4^th 1787. She was the widow of Jean-Marie Descaries. No children were born from this 2^nd marriage. Antoine Foucher, notary and widow of his second wife since March 14^th 1795, Marie-Louise Giguère, was buried on February 17^th 1801 in Montréal. There are no descendants from the 3^rd generation.

Association

Foundation

On October 23, 1999, an assembly was held to form the Association des Faucher et Foucher, Fifteen people attended this assembly. On January 25, 2000 the Association was officially incorporated under Part III of the Quebec companies Act.

The members of the Association des Faucher et Foucher, confirmed the Association founding at the first annual general meeting held on August 26, 2000 at St-Edouard de Frampton in Beauce. This assembly was held at « La cabane à Pierre » (Pierre’s sugarshack).

The Association is also a member of the Fédération des associations de familles du Québec (Federation of the Quebec families associations).

The support of the Association is based on its volunteers and administrators.

Objectives

The following objectives are pursued by the Association :

Gather all direct or allied descendants, man or woman, related to the Faucher and Foucher ancestors bearing today the surname of Faucher, Foucher and other descendant who took the surname of Châteauvert and Saint-Maurice.
Make the member familiar with their origins, history, patrimony and the actual implications their ancestor had in their surrounding.
Organize meetings and activities to allow members to meet and socialize.

In any organization, recruting is the main goal to ensure that the Association will live and grow. The more active members there are, the more chances are there will be activities creating new and invigorating meetings. So you guess that each member has a small part to make sure the Association des Faucher et Foucher will grow and stay strong. We should ensure that the Association does not disappear because of a lack of interest or unconcern and it is certainly not the mark of the Faucher and Foucher.

What can we do? You guessed right! Each member must do some recruting starting in their immediate family and the proud family member bearing the surname of Faucher, Foucher, Châteauvert and Saint-Maurice. A form of sponsorship? Why not! By clicking on the link, you will find a subscription form :
